Project Overview
Valley County is considering an application to the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to fund improvements to the Duck Creek Road. The purpose of FLAP is to improve transportation facilities that provide access to, are adjacent to, or are located within Federal Lands.
The road is one of the most heavily travelled in Valley County and provides or links access to Army Corps properties, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management federal lands, and private properties. It provides direct access to five Army Corps recreational areas including the Fort Peck Shelters 1 & 2, Fort Peck marina and campgrounds, the Duck Creek State fishing access site and Duck Creek Recreation Area, and the West Tent and Trailer (Class A) Campground, all of which are on Corps land.
The preliminary estimated cost to upgrade the road is in the $5 million range. This includes rebuilding the paved portion of the road as well as widening from 24’ to 32’ to allow for usage of oversized vehicles and pedestrians. In addition, the county is considering straightening a portion of the gravel road section, adding gravel resurfacing, and adding dust abatement.
Schedule
FLAP applications extended deadline May 15, 2021. If successful construction would not occur for several years.
