Geographic Information System (GIS)

What is G.I.S.?

It's a Geographic Information System computer based tool for mapping and analyzing.

How does it work?

GIS stores information in like layers. For example, a map of the county will show on layer one, the terrain, layer two may show lakes, ponds and rivers, layer three may be a town site, layer four and so on. Each layer has a specific use, and depending what type of information you need, you can add or subtract layers to illustrate what you are wanting to understand.

There are many ways in which GIS can aid us in day to day operations and planning. Feel free to check out the following links to learn more.
